Seven Passes currently operates on a very small budget. In 2008 the area co-ordinator was remunerated from a grant from the municipality to the commercial farmers that is intended for farm security. The decision to use this money to support Seven Passes was made by the farmers in recognition of the fact that supporting youth development is an effective way of building a strong and healthy community in the long-term.
The Seven Passes vehicle was purchased with the assistance of the Toyota dealer in George. Petrol was donated by the farmers and the car is insured through Indwe Risk Services, who obtained sponsorship to fund the annual premium, at no cost to the organisation.
During 2008 the Seven Passes Initiative received the following donations:
-
R9000 – from Nedbank (from its charity golf day)
-
R1000 – from the Hoekwil ratepayers association
-
R2000 – from the George cheese festival
-
R800 – from a private individual
In addition, we secured a donation from the George Municipality of educational materials valued at R5000 for the Homework Clubs; 250 pencils and erasers from a private individual in the area; and regular supplies of bread and other foodstuffs from the local shops in Hoekwil.
During 2009 the Seven Passes Initiative received R290 000 from the Christian Development Trust. These funds are dedicated to the purchase of a small bus
(R150 000); the establishment of a computer centre (R100 307.12; for the area co-ordinator to visit and learn from a similar initiative in Wales (R22 582.00) and for 3 months salary for the area co-ordinator (R18 000).
Also in 2009 the Initiative received a R10 000 donation from the George Municipality.
Seven Passes is audited annually by Mazar, Moores Rowland auditors in George.
