Networking and Stakeholder Engagement

We have established a good working relationship with the local municipality and have worked with the municipality to implement an HIV and AIDS awareness programme as well as interventions aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy.

We have fostered a positive working relationship with commercial farmers and other businesses in and around the Eden district. A small group of farmers provides a monthly petrol allowance that allows the area co-ordinator to operate the Seven Passes vehicle (a Toyota Tazz).

We have established working relationships with NGOs and churches in George and will be working together with them in the future on issues such as drug counselling, sports activities and leadership development.

During 2009 Solidariteit purchased from the Initiative the right to reproduce the model developed by the Initiative in other parts of the country, this is because they were impressed by the impact of the Initiative, in particular in addressing youth involvement in crime. Also during 2009 the Initiative was invited to brief NGOs in the Lavender Hill community of Cape Town about its activities, with the view to initiating similar programmes there.
